About Steph Penny

G’day! I’m Steph, and it’s great to meet you! I’m passionate about writing and I love talking to people about hard topics like suffering, chronic illness, childlessness, singledom and how to survive as a Christian in this world. I’m also passionate about cats, chocolate, fantasy and sci-fi stories, bargain shopping and the grace that pours from Christ like a torrent into our lives.

I’m the author of Surviving Chronic Illness, the third book in the Survival series, which you can order here. It follows Surviving Childlessness and Surviving Singledom. All my books address the too-hard-basket questions with quirky humour and hope. Sign up for my blog and follow me on facebook and twitter for the latest!

My weekly blog, Countercultural Conversations, challenges cultural norms in church and society in general. My writing is a little left-of-centre and always honest, and seeks to inspire Christians to live for Christ. To read my most recent blog posts, click here.

In 2022 Surviving Childlessness was listed as a finalist in the CALEB awards! The CALEBs (Christian Authors Lifting Each other’s Books) are awarded by Omega Christian Writers, an international writers’ group. And in 2020 I won the CALEB Encouragement Award for my blog!

I’m a singer/songwriter and I publish original songs online. Click here or visit YouTube to watch.

What else? I help out with worship ministry at my local church, where you can usually find me singing and jumping around behind the keyboard.

In my spare time, I work as a psychologist, helping people struggling with addiction and mental health issues. When I’m not at work, you’ll find me writing, chilling out with my husband and furbaby, eating chocolate (the darker the better, amiright?), buying more books than I’ll ever read and dreaming of travel!
