If You’re Lost…

I can’t believe it’s March already. 2026 is galloping ahead. For some of us, we already feel a bit behind the eight-ball. This has not been the year some of us were hoping for. In fact, for some of us, 2026 stinks. It’s going in a completely unwanted, violent, catastrophic direction. And we feel left behind.

There’s another person who once felt left behind. In John 9, Jesus encountered a blind man who wanted to see. Jesus did what any caring individual would do: spat on the ground, messed around with it, slapped it on the blind man’s face and told him to go wash. The blind man got healed from it! Who would’ve thought?

But things didn’t get easier for the blind man. He was dragged into the synagogue and interrogated by the Pharisees. Unsatisfied by the simplicity of his testimony (‘I was blind, and now I see’), they brought his parents in and gave them the same treatment. In the end, the Pharisees were infuriated with them and tossed them out on to the street.

Where could the blind man go? He had only just regained his sight! How could he find his way around? How could he find Jesus, the man who healed him? He had no clue what Jesus looked like. At this point in the story, our seeing man didn’t know Jesus was the Messiah either.

It can be easy to fret when when we feel disoriented and life’s circumstances overwhelm us. At such times we can feel lost in the streets with no idea where God is or how to find him. We might even question whether God is who he says he is: faithful, compassionate, near.

But there’s good news, and it’s found in the next bit of the story:

‘Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and went and found him.’ (John 9:35 The Message)

When Jesus found the seeing man, he believed in and worshiped Jesus. But for me, the standout in this story is how Jesus went and sought the man out, knowing the man would be unable to find Jesus under his own steam. The man, though seeing, was still lost. But Jesus, our Jesus, ‘went and found him…’

If you’re lost, questioning God, unsure where to turn next, there’s hope for you. Because Jesus is the type of person who finds people. He is seeking you out. Let him be your compass today; let his hope lift you from any despair and reconcile you to himself.

Have you felt lost or disoriented this year? Have you been looking for Jesus to no avail? What difference does it make, knowing you don’t have to find him because he will find you? Share your story. Let’s have a countercultural conversation.
